We’re offering a paid full-time internship based in our Norwest office, where you'll gain hands-on experience in trauma-informed care, knowledge-sharing, and partnership work across two leading teams: OurSPACE NSW and our Knowledge Mobilisation & Practice division.

About the opportunity

This internship is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our Therapeutic Specialists to support children, young people, carers, and families through culturally safe, trauma-aware practice. You’ll have opportunities to contribute to:

  • Building relationships with community and services
  • Supporting therapeutic outreach in out-of-home care
  • Developing tools, resources and training for professionals
  • Participating in reflective practice and supervision
  • Learning how practice, policy and research connect to support healing and safety

This is a unique chance to develop skills, contribute meaningfully to programs, and shape future directions for child and family wellbeing.

About the program
This internship sits across OurSPACE NSW and the Australian Childhood Foundation’s Knowledge Mobilisation & Practice team. Together, they support children and young people in out-of-home care through trauma-informed services, workforce training, and practical tools that strengthen carers, professionals, and systems of care. The Foundation is a national not-for-profit dedicated to helping children heal from abuse, neglect, and family violence.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background
  • Commitment to learning about trauma-aware and culturally respectful care
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Willingness to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Confidence with basic computer tasks (e.g. Word, Outlook)
  • A current NSW driver’s licence (or equivalent)
  • Working With Children Check and Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
